This fall, CCHS has welcomed Mrs. Alonso, a new English teacher, to our community. As a former Lincoln-Sudbury teacher, she is now excited to be a part of Concord-Carlisle. She is currently teaching 10th grade English as well as AP Seminar, and is excited to get to know more students here.
From being the daughter of a teacher in high school to becoming one herself, Mrs. Alonso has always enjoyed being a role model for those around her. She fondly recalls how as a student, she thoroughly enjoyed school, especially because her mom was also a teacher. In her mind, she thinks her mom’s involvement in her school life “shaped the way I acted a little bit,” but equally notes that she “was an English class nerd and loved it.” As the daughter of a teacher, she jokingly says she equally took advantage of it, though, admitting to having texted her mom things like “get me out of class” but noting that the experience was also “nice because every teacher knew who [she] was”, which helped her feel “like a role model from the jump.”
Her favorite thing about being a teacher is the mix of building routine and getting to improvise; “every day is a little bit different,” she says, “I really enjoy working within a schedule and standards… and the balance of finding moments of joy and improv moments within.” Currently, she’s “so excited to get to know everyone in this new community,” noting that she feels as though “Concord Carlisle seems like such a place of pride and joy,” a place that, as she puts it, she’s “really excited to get to know… and become a part of.”
While the school is “very different from [her] last district,” she finds that the hardest thing to navigate here is “getting used to the new schedule”… “And also the stairs,” she jokes. While the transition has been exciting, she also notes that not knowing as many people here has been a challenge: “walking through the hallways and not recognizing faces; it’s hard.” But as the year progresses, Mrs. Alonso looks forward to meeting new people and is “excited to have more people to say hi to.”
Her hobbies outside of school include watching “any and all sports.” She says she’s “always talking about football or basketball” and is especially interested in softball, which she played through college. She also says she “saw a Bob Ross video” a while ago and found him inspirational, especially in how “he makes you feel like it’s ok to fail.” Thanks to his inspirational videos, she also finds enjoyment in painting outdoor scenery. Overall, she has enjoyed finding a balance here, as well, between her teaching and life outside of the classroom, and has learned how to stay flexible with all she does.
The voice is so happy to welcome Mrs. Alonso to CCHS!
