Anyone who had the opportunity to go to last Saturday’s CCHS Faculty Follies will attest to its charm and quality. Through a combination of skits and hilarious videos, the CCHS faculty amazed parents and students alike. The show covered several topics such as the impending move to the new building and the 1:1 problem.
The show, which was directed by Ben Kendall of Social Studies, also provided an outlet for much of CC’s faculty talent. Several faculty members, such as Dan Simone, Laurelle Mathison, Eric Pohl, Chris Gauthier, and sophomore Hugh Schmidt demonstrated their musical talent in the “Movin’ on Up” song and the “Teachers of Concord” song. Mr. Cole also demonstrated his own musical capability in a spectacular Frozen duo with Ms. Mathison. The Rivers and Revolutions students performed a rousing version of “Take Me into Rivers,” while Rivers founder Michael Goodwin joined the band on electric guitar. Several other teachers highlighted their own comedic capabilities in a Faculty Meeting Skit with Ms. Fischer. One of the most hilarious skits, “Hogwarts goes 1:1″ featured the brilliant performances of Mr. Spence, Ms. Fleming, Ms. Cicchetti, Mr. Bookis and Dr. Nurenberg. The first act was also gifted with an entertaining spoof video of “This Old House,” featuring Mr. Wilder and Ms. Vice-Hisey, with a cameo by custodian Fritz Prunier, which chronicled the many peculiarities and oddities of our very own CCHS building.
The show then closed for a brief intermission, where audience members had the opportunity to buy delicious treats for Dignity in Asylum, a program that sponsors LGBT asylum seekers and helps them transition from their native countries. Often times, such asylum seekers flee to the US to flee persecution from communities that are exceptionally hostile to the LGBT community. The organization is made entirely out of volunteers so 100% of all donations go straight to asylum seekers.
The second act was kicked off by music from Mr. Atlas and Mr. Kendall who sang two very interesting songs about the Purple Crayon. The audience then got to watch skits about mindfulness and the Walking Dead. Next came the moment that many CCHS students were waiting for, the rap video from Mr. Rivera and Mr. Hoblitzelle. The video also proved to be a huge success and can be found online. The show was finally closed by a moving speech from Concord Carlisle Teacher’s Association (CCTA) head Mr. Atlas and two final performances from Ms. Furey, Mr. Simone and Mr. Gauthier as well as a final closing song involving all of the CCTA members present.
The CCTA faculty show was an amazing experience and a true joy to all who attended. People who didn’t get a chance to go can view the “This Old House” video and the Holbitzelle-Rivera rap performance online at the attached links. However, don’t pass up your chance to go the show the next time it comes around.
